Some Thoughts on Pic of the Day

Blogging, Pic of the Day 2012

Two years ago, I had the idea to start a pic of the day project. Initially, I put a lot of pressure on myself to do exactly that. About halfway through 2010, I gave up. Because I was intent on posting a pic every single day, it quickly stopped being fun and felt more like work.

I began 2011 with no intention of doing a pic of the day project, but I looked back at the pics I posted from 2010 and enjoyed seeing a chronology of things I had done and places I had been. So, in February, I decided to start another “pic of the day” project, but one in name only. I did not want to stress out about posting something everyday but attempted to post something most days which worked out much better for me. Coincidentally, I wound up posting about the same number of pics in both 2010 and 2011 (135 and 136 respectively).

This year, I have a few pet projects that I hope will help keep me going with my pics of the day. One thing I would like to do, is take pictures of the various historical markers in the city. I keep passing them by and find them interesting and think it would be fun and informative to see if I can get to them all. I also want to focus on documenting more of our neighborhood. For the sake of this project, I’m not going to adhere to any strict definition of our Graduate Hospital neighborhood, aka G-Ho because that skews a little more south than we tend to travel. I’m going to use the general boundaries of Walnut Street to the north, Broad Street to the east, Christian Street to the south and the Schuylkill River to the west.

I think having a few projects in mind will help keep my pics of the day moving forward in 2012.
