We started our last day of Staycation with a visit to the Rodin Museum. We had tried to do this on the last day of last year’s staycation, but they were closed. This year we planned ahead a bit more to ensure that we’d finally get there. We’d walked the grounds before (which you can do for free) but had never been inside. I thought that the visit inside was well worth the effort. Admission to the Rodin is pay-what-you-like every day, which is a nice touch. While the museum is small, the pieces held are impressive and insightful when it comes to Rodin’s overall career. His “Gates of Hell” is accessible via the outside of the museum, but we found we learned more about its individual parts by exploring the inside of the museum.
After our museum visit, we headed over to Midtown Village to eat lunch at Barbuzzo. As with many of the other Turney-Safran joints in the area, Barbuzzo had been on our list for awhile. Barbuzzo’s theme is a well-executed Mediterranean cafe. My autostrada sandwich was reminiscent of roadside sandwiches I had in Italy and was just really great. Though everything on the menu sounded delicious and we could have loaded up on antipasti, we opted to save our room for dessert and try Barbuzzo’s famous salted caramel budino. It lived up to the hype, and we made short work of it. We really look forward to visiting again for dinner.
Monday’s lunch was really the last hurrah of staycation; after that we were definitely winding down and mentally preparing ourselves to go back to work the next day. For dinner, we simply grazed on leftovers from Sunday night’s dinner at OPA as well as other things lingering in our fridge.
I think we did a great job of staycationing this year – altogether we went to 16 places, including 10 new (to us) restaurants & bars. It was a nice mix of activities, from museums to movies, to eating & drinking. There are still dozens of places on our list, so we’re nowhere near exhausting what Philadelphia has to offer.
